The context
Making centuries of history accessible.
Canterbury Cathedral is a global symbol of history, heritage and inspiration. Its education programme needed to engage a broader and more diverse audience, particularly younger visitors, while remaining true to the cathedral’s identity and extraordinary story.

The challenge
Learning designed for a new generation.
The team wanted to update educational materials, create more interactive resources and improve the online experience. Every element needed to support the National Curriculum and STEM subjects while working equally well for school groups, families and independent visitors.

The strategy
A connected physical and digital experience.
We created vibrant resources featuring Gregory Gargoyle, including Explorer Backpacks, Loan Box materials and visitor trails. Themes such as Crafting the Cathedral and Making History connected the building to key curriculum areas.
A custom WordPress plugin gave the internal team control of online content, while a digital game and interactive elements made the cathedral’s story engaging both before and during a visit.

The impact
Heritage opened up to more people.
Online traffic to educational resources increased by 35%, school visits grew by 25% and engagement from younger audiences rose by 20%. The new WordPress tools also cut content update time by 50%.
